Unit 7 Period 4
Teacher: Chen Li from Nanchang Foreign Language School
Time needed: 40 minutes
Teaching aim: Reviews the new languages of unit 7. And know more things about food culture. Let students know how to make their own dishes, using the target language.
Teaching tools: diagram, cards, PowerPoint

Teaching procedure:
Step1: lead in
      Use the simple greeting words to review the words that they learned in this unit.
Step2: Task 1  competition
      Remind students of the names of different food. Ask them to look carefully and write down the words that they see
Step3: Classify the kinds of food of different countries
      Teach them different food culture
Step4: Introduce the kinds of sandwiches
Step5: Choose the ingredients that I need to make a turkey sandwich. in this way students can review the words of last lesson.
Step 6: Task 2  To make a turkey sandwich for the teacher.
Step7: Who is the most helpful student at home?
      Let students know that they can do something for their parents
Step 8: Task 3   Let’s make a kind of Chinese food. Write down the ingredients that you need and the process of making it.
Step9: Homework: design a new kind of dish with your group members.

Teaching Proudures:
Step I:  Greet the dass as usual and check the homework. Use a flash of cooking to lead in. Review how to make noodles . Recite the process of making noodles. This class we’ll learn how to make sandwiches.
Step II:  Learn the following new words.
Show the pictures on the screen, then point to each item and name them, lead the stndents to read and get the first impression of this stuff used often in the kitchen work.
Step III:  Make a short dialogue to practice the new words
cg:  A: Do you like butter in your sandwich?
B: Yes, I do.
A: Do you like lettuce?
B: No, I don’t
Make a short summary:
In my sandwich, I like……
Step III:  Use a sandwich and show the ingredients to the students. Ask them to repeat.
Tell the students how to make a sandwich step by step:   
First, put the butter on a slice of bread.
Next, cut up the tomatoes and onions, put them on the sandwich.
Then, put the turkey slices and luttuce on the bread.
Finally, put another silce of bread on the top.
Group work: practise the processStep IV: Listening skill
Listen the first time, put the process of making sandwiches in right order.
Listen again, Fill in the blanks.
Step V: Pair Work
Tell your partner how to make your favorite sandwich
Step VI: Summary and Homework.
Write a recipe of your favorite sandwich.
And then make a sandwich for your parents.

                   Task 1 Word Revision
Step 1.  Review the names of the food. ( describe them in English, and let the students to guess the words.)
Step2.  Review the verbs. ( take an example to explain the process of making banana milk shake in order to review the words.)
Step 3.  A  little check. (I say Chinese, they say English, or I say English, they say Chinese.)
              Task 2 Grammar Focus
Step1. Ask the students to conclude the usage of “how many…?” and “ how much…?”
Step 2. See a cartoon. ( Tell them to ask and answer the questions by using “how many…?” and “ how much…?” according to the cartoon.
         Task 3 Discussion and Writing
   1. Divide them into six groups.( choose one to write the process down.)
2. Give them four pictures about how to eat Beijing duck.
3. Have a check, ask some of them to read them out.
4. Give them a sample.

This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language
T: Next we will make another kind of food.

Show the students five pictures about the process of making popcorn .Ask the students to say the process.
Step 4 Competition
1.       Divide the class into groups of six.
Each group choose some fruit to make fruit salad .some students may do the cutting some students may write the process. The group which makes the most delicious salad and gives the clearest process wins.

1show the students videos of food making .Ask them to report the process in English. Give an example .
Step 6.Summary and homework.

本教材采取循环滚动的内容安排体系。本单元出现的语言材料:名词的分类——可数名词和不可数名词的区别以及用于指示命令的祈使句都沉浸于初一的教学内容中,本单元通过食品制作这一话题既再现了已有语言项目——运用祈使句描述和提出指令,又把名词的用法进行了集中归纳和比较,并对已有语言项目进行拓展,学生通过实际操作提高了认知能力,同时中西方饮食文化也在本单元碰出了美丽的火花。
Period 1在设计第一课时,本着循序渐进、层次分明的原则,并没有急于展示本单元语言材料,只是通过食品制作的实际操作让学生体验如何发布和执行指令,如何描述事件的过程,并在布置作业环节为下一节课关于名词的可数与不可数分类埋下伏笔。
.学生状况分析
初二的不分层班级学生英语水平参差不齐,部分学生具备较强的听说能力,企求在课堂上有更多的语言输入和输出。而部分学生基础较差,没有信心开口讲,难以调动其学习热情。所以针对这种不同的学习需求,教师在设计课堂教学任务时要注重调动学生的学习积极性。

Task2 Learn to make popcorn.
Show a bag of popcorn.
Ss look at the pictures of 3b and discuss how to make popcorn in groups. Enable the Ss to use first, next, then and finally to describe a process.
Ask some Ss to report the result. Then Ss ask and answer in pairs.
To see which group is the best and give them a prize.
Task3 Learn to make noodles.
T: Now I’ll show you the special in my shop. Tomato and beef noodles.
Show the recipe disrupted. Put them in order.
Task4 Recipe Report
Each group choose a kind of food. Write the recipe. Then choose a student to the front to give a recipe report. To see which group is the best.
Step5 extend
Knowledge of food.
Step6 Homework
The teacher summarize what has been learned from the lesson and gives the homework.

Unit 7 How do you make a banana milk shake?
                 Section B(第一课时)

Language goals:
1.     Describe a process
2.     Follow instructions


Step1.  Warming up
1.     Ask students questions: --What’s your favorite food?
(Different students have different answers)
2.     Say: “My favorite food is sandwich.”


Step2.  Presentation
1.     Show a picture of sandwich on the screen
2.     Ask students: ---What’s this?
               --- It’s a sandwich.
3 .I say “There are so many kinds of sandwiches “(Look at the pictures on the screen.).
      4. Show the students : turkey/ beef/ chicken/ egg/ lettuce/ tomato/  
                Carrot sandwich.
      5.Say “I can make a turkey sandwich. Do you want to learn?

       Step3 Looking, listening ,and writing
1.     Let students look at the Flash of making a turkey sandwich. And list the steps on the screen
2.     Explain the steps to the students and let the students read after me.
3.     Listen to the tape (2a,2b),do the exercises .

      Step4 Pairwork
1.     Look at the Flash again, let the students read and repeat the steps freely.
2.     Pairwork, ask and answer in pairs
      ----What’s your favorite sandwich?
      ---Do you know how to make a turkey/chicken … sandwich?
     --- How much/many … do we need?

Step5 Discussion
Let the students discuss “On Thanksgiving Day, what do you want to do for your parents?  After you learned how to make a sandwich, can you make a hamburger for them?”

Teaching aims and demands:
Learn to describe a process and follow instructions.

Teaching key words and difficult language points:
1.     Vocabulary : turn on , cut up , drink , peel , pour , put , blender , shake.
2. Target sentences:
How do you make a banana milk?  
Peel the bananas.
Cut up the bananas.
Put the bananas and the ice-cream in the blender.
Pour the milk into the blender.
Turn on the blender.
Drink the milk shake.

Teaching methods:
Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing

Teaching aids:
real objects, pictures, computer

Teaching Procedures:

Step Warming up
     Enjoy an apple song to relax.

StepⅡ Lead in
     Enjoy an advertisement of coke.

StepPresentation
    1. Show the students a glass of banana milk shake, and teach the new word shake, then tell them how to make a banana milk shake.
Teach the names of all items. Point to the pictures of the items and ask students to repeat.
2. Focus on the pictures. Ask the students to tell what they see in each picture. Describe each action and ask students to repeat the following:
      First, peel a banana, and cut up the banana.
      Next, put the banana and ice-cream intothe blender.
Then, pour the milk into the blender.
Finally, turn on the blender.
Drink the banana milk shake.
3. Review the new words by doing the actions.

Step Competition
     Devide all the students into three groups, and give them one minute to practice the actions together. Then use a stopwatch to record to see which group uses the least time.

Step Do the exercises
Ask students to write the names of the actions on the black lines. Then check the answers.

Step Listening
    1. Point to the actions in the picture and the list of actions in 1b. Ask different students to look at the picture and tell what is happening.
2. Play the recording for the first time. The students only listen. Then listen again, number the instructions.

Step Writing
     1. Show them some pictures of fruit, and tell them to use these things to make a milk shake.
2.Pair work. Ask students to start their conversations like the sample conversation.

Step Make a milk shake by themselves
     
If there is a little time, tell some groups of students to make the milk shake by themselves. See which group is the quickest and the best .

Step Homework
1. Make a milk shake for your family.
2. Prepare the next lesson.
